Enjoy the lakes and villages.
The Sneekermeer is the perfect place to experience Friesland from the water. From the De Potten starting point in Offingawier, you can hop right onto one of the Greenjoy boats and go boating straight into a vast water sports area. The lake is known for its lively atmosphere, open water, and beautiful views, interspersed with reed beds and cozy mooring spots.
In the area, there are plenty of options: take a relaxed boating trip around the lake, go boating toward downtown Sneek, or explore the smaller canals and nature reserves surrounding the Sneekermeer. Along the way, you’ll pass waterfront cafes, quiet beaches, and typical Frisian villages. Whether you’re looking for peace and quiet or a bit of excitement, go boating from De Potten to experience Friesland at its best.
More about the lake region.
In addition to the Sneekermeer, the charming town of Terherne is also within easy reach, right in the heart of the Frisian lake district. From here, you can easily go boating and continue out onto the waters toward the Terkaplesterpoelen and the Goëngarijpsterpoelen. This area is known for its varied landscape of open lakes, narrow channels, and small islands—perfect for a leisurely exploration. Terherne itself—known as the “Chameleon Village”—is a delightful stopover with cozy restaurants and cafés right on the water.
For example, setting out from De Potten not only gives you access to the Sneekermeer, but also to an entire network of Frisian lakes and waterways—ideal for a day of exploration on the water.
