Reservations
No, a boating credit is for going boating. It’s not for paying a security deposit. The portion of the security deposit paid with a boating credit cannot be refunded because we can only refund the money that was actually paid. It’s safer that way…
For insurance purposes, renting (and operating) an electric boat is permitted for individuals 18 years of age or older. Individuals under this age may operate an electric boat only under the adequate supervision of an adult. The adult is responsible for the child’s safety.
Most rental companies require a minimum rental period of half a day (four hours). We think two hours is more than enough. Of course, you can also rent it for longer—the price per hour is often even more affordable in that case.
If no damage was found after you went boating and you acted with due care, we will process the security deposit refund the next day through our payment provider, MultiSafepay. The funds are transferred from us immediately, and depending on your bank’s processing time, the amount will be credited to your account within 1 to 3 business days for iDEAL (Wero) payments. (Weekends and holidays are not included in this count.) For credit card payments (5 euros extra), processing by your credit card company usually takes considerably longer.
It’s very simple. You use the website to choose when you want to go boating and for how long. You can book up to a year in advance—or even just minutes before departure! You can pay online for free using iDEAL (online banking). You can also pay by credit card, but additional fees will apply. You’ll then receive a booking confirmation with instructions. About 20 minutes before departure, you’ll get a text message with a link to the instructions and the activation code for the boat. So you can easily start the boat using your cell phone. Upon your return, make sure the boat is back in its spot five minutes before the end of the rental period, and check out just as easily via your cell phone. It’s that simple! You can rent an electric boat 7 days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. (In the early and late seasons, we close a little earlier in the evening.)
Prices and Variable Rates
If you have a discount voucher with a percentage or fixed-amount discount, you can easily enter it during the booking process; the discount will be applied immediately. (It is not possible to combine multiple Vouchers or discounts.) If you have a Gift voucher, you may need to enter a code, or your Email address may be sufficient to apply the discount. In the latter case, you do not need to enter anything in the discount field. Vouchers always have a limited validity period (which varies by voucher). Just like in the aviation and travel industries, Greenjoy uses dynamic pricing. Always competitive, but not fixed.
The price automatically adjusts based on supply and demand, (weekly) conditions, and the season.
In general, Greenjoy offers some of the most competitive rates on the market for such spacious electric boats. Our rates range from 30 to 45 euros per hour (except on King’s Day). Want the absolute lowest rates? Then consider, for example, combining an early morningor late afternoon departure with booking 1 to 2 weeks in advance , and opt for more hours—such as 4 or more— and book outside of peak season.

A partly cloudy Monday morning is a different story than a Sunday with 25 degrees. That means there will be days when anyone can go boating for a few tens per hour. On peak days, the rate will be significantly higher. In other words, by making certain hours a bit more expensive, we can actually make the other hours more affordable. We call this “making boat trips accessible to everyone.” This way (similar to buying low-budget airline tickets), we can operate as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible.

Fortunately, more and more banks are offering the option to make an iDEAL payment through their mobile banking app. This can often be done without using a card reader, just by entering a simple PIN. With this feature, you can book a boat at Greenjoy right from your phone—even just minutes before departure.

Cancellation and Rescheduling
At Greenjoy, you can easily reschedule any Booking; however, there is a fee for this:
- You can reschedule your booking up to 48 hours in advance—just give us a call or send an email. We charge a 10-euro administrative fee for this, plus any additional cost associated with the new date.
- If you want to reschedule your booking right before departure for any reason (the weather, a sudden downpour, or a change in your plans), you can do so; however, we will retain 50% of the rental amount. (with a minimum of 50 euros); the remainder will be credited to your rental account. This credit can be redeemed until the end of the current season.
- In the event of severe weather (limited to very strong winds and/or thunderstorms), Greenjoy reserves the right to reschedule the Booking to another preferred date, starting at Code Orange in the relevant region (see also KNMI and warnings for the Utrecht and North Holland regions).
- If you wish to cancel the booking for a reason or within a timeframe other than those mentioned in the previous points, you may do so, but we will retain 50% of the rental amount (with a minimum of 50 euros), and the remainder will be converted into a rental credit. This credit can be redeemed until the end of the current season.
We have this policy because we want to offer competitive and reasonable prices; (last-minute) cancellations prevent us from renting out a boat (again), and we also perform preparatory work for each Booking.
The Elektroboats
Greenjoy’s electric boats are designed for groups of up to 10 people at most locations. However, due to CE standards and safety regulations, we adhere to a maximum permitted capacity. Since the type of boat may vary by location, the maximum capacity for each location is clearly indicated on the location pages (so be sure to check them carefully!). This maximum capacity is based on adults with an average weight of 80 kg. One adult counts as two children for this calculation.
Safety on the Water
The weather forecast can change suddenly. You can easily reschedule your booking up to 48 hours in advance (see this page)
A little rain or a thunderstorm doesn’t have to be a problem as long as you stay in the city and avoid open water. Just take shelter under a small bridge for a moment, and then continue on your way. Check out here our blog with the best tips for Dutch weather.
If severe thunderstorms or severe weather develop right before your boat trip, please give us a quick call. That way, we can figure out the best solution on the spot.
- In de vloer zitten 2 gaten om regenwater af te voeren. Door het gewicht in de sloep kan het water hierdoor ook in de sloep komen. Zorg daarom altijd vóórdat de rest aan boord gaat (!) dat de pluggen goed in deze gaten zitten en dat het hendeltje omlaag staat zodat de plug zich goed vast knelt.
- Komt er tóch een beetje water door? Dan zit de plug waarschijnlijk te los en kun je deze aan de onderzijde van de plug eenvoudig aandraaien;
- Zit er al wat water op de vloer? Geen probleem. Even de pluggen eruit dan loopt het vanzelf weg. Er kan ook nog water uit het bankje vandaan stromen, dus doe de pluggen er niet te snel weer in;
Steering a Greenjoy boat is easy! For true mastery of the helm, keep these points in mind:
- The boat doesn’t have a rudder, but is steered by the engine (just like an outboard motor), so always give it a little gas when turning;
- A boat responds less immediately to steering than a bicycle or a car. So don’t oversteer, or you’ll start to sway;
- Braking in water takes longer (sometimes as much as two boat lengths). So be sure to ease off the throttle in time and, if necessary, put the boat in reverse;

You’re welcome to bring your own food and drinks on board. Just make sure to take everything with you when the boat trip is over. It’s only fair to the next renter.
Yes, you can bring a dog on board. Just make sure to leave the boat in good condition when you’re done. The person who uses it after you might not be as big a fan of dogs and dog hair. It’s a good idea to bring a small blanket for your dog to lie on.
No, a boating license is not required. Anyone over the age of 18 may rent an electric boat. It’s not difficult, either. You hold the tiller, which lets you steer the boat. A boat does respond a bit more slowly than a bicycle or car. It also takes longer to slow down. The electric boats are equipped with fenders all around, and a rubber bumper is mounted at the front. The most vulnerable part is the propeller. So be careful when reversing near the shore. If the propeller gets damaged, you won’t be able to get home—or you’ll get home very late!
Note: The boat is propelled by the propeller, so always keep a little “throttle open” when turning a corner. This is similar to an outboard motor.
Look ahead carefully, take it easy, give it a little time to get used to it, and everything will be fine. “Easy does it.”
Very important—don’t take any risks on the water—and certainly not around commercial vessels. Those big ships have trouble maneuvering and stopping—so NEVER pass right in front of them, and stay away from their wake as well—because it will make your boat uncontrollable.
No, unfortunately, we don’t have a space on the dock where we can store these items. So it’s a good idea to bring a small pillow or towel with you if you’re going to go boating for a while.
Although our electric boats are very stable and have a deep cockpit, it’s of course safer for the children to wear a life jacket. You can buy good-quality life jackets at any water sports store, or usually find inexpensive inflatable life jackets at HEMA. A solution that many renters use is to put on swim rings (“butterflies”). These are often already available.
Haarlem: You can pay for Parking directly on Oranje Kade (debit card/coins) near our Location (click for directions). You can usually find a spot here or in the surrounding streets. If it’s really busy, the Raaks Parking Garage (click for directions) is a 5-minute walk from our Location. If you live in the city, we recommend biking. 
Utrecht: You can park (pay for it) in the parking spaces along Wittevrouwensingel, but we recommend parking in the Grift parking garage. It’s cheaper.
Loosdrecht: Parking is available on the spacious driveway at Het Anker Marina
Leeuwarden: Parking is easy in the immediate vicinity
Haarlem:
Do you have difficulty walking? There’s a dock next to the theater; a person can row a small boat over there to help people board. You’ll go under the Leidse Bridge, turn left, continue a short distance, and then you’ll come to the dock. (50 meters past the bridge on the right, on the long side of the Stadsschouwburg)
Utrecht:
At this location, we have three small jetties that are 60 cm wide with a simple boarding step. Is this too difficult? If so, just tie up the boat to the dock briefly before departure to make boarding even easier.
Loosdrecht:
At the Het Anker Marina, it is possible to go boating with the boat to the parking lot, where people with limited mobility can board more easily along the low pier.
Leeuwarden:
Our dock in the center of Leeuwarden is wheelchair accessible. The mooring for the first boat is the most convenient spot for boarding the boat from a wheelchair. We always recommend Contacting us in advance so we can make sure the boat is ready and waiting there.

Be sure to give us a call! If no one is waiting for you, that’s not a problem in itself, but the fees will still be deducted from your security deposit. You can also call while you’re going boating to ask if you can stay out longer (just make sure to call in time!). If possible, we’re happy to extend your rental time (at the same hourly rate).
But we don’t like it when people are late! So if there are people waiting, we’ll issue a fine. Because that’s just really inconvenient for them. We have to compensate them with time or money. So if you’re late, we’ll charge you (at least) 30 euros, plus another 30 euros for every half hour you’re late. We’ll deduct this from your security deposit. See also our terms and conditions.
But do us, yourself, and the other person a favor—just come back on time and make sure you’re back at our location five minutes before the end of the rental period.
TIP: If you’re going on a two-hour boat trip, make sure to turn back within an hour. That way, you’ll always be back on time.
If you take the turns gently and brake in time, the risk of damage is extremely low (also be careful when going boating near the shore—the propeller is very fragile!). The electric boats don’t go very fast, so the risk of serious damage isn’t high. If it does happen—even if someone else is at fault—always call us (see the Contact page).
Write down the other party’s information. Also, prepare a damage report that includes a sketch of the scene and your assessment of the cause of the problem.
Incidentally, it’s not very likely that you’ll damage the boat yourself. The fender, the bow bumper, and the aluminum can withstand a great deal. It’s more likely that damage will occur to another boat. As the skipper/renter, you accept personal liability. Your liability insurance may also cover this (provided you haven’t had too much to drink—the “designated driver” rule applies on the water as well). The deductible with Greenjoy is 250 euros per incident.
Also keep in mind that some of the boats are owned by fellow participants. Greenjoy only rents them out. So please be careful with the belongings of (possibly) your neighbor. Our boat owners are nice people (some even call them “enlightened” souls) who enjoy seeing others have fun on their boats.
All Greenjoy electric boats are equipped with a map of the city center and local waterways. This is usually sufficient for planning a short trip. If you’re heading a bit further out or planning a longer trip, it’s a good idea to print out one of our online routes and bring it with you. Of course, you can also use your cell phone to look up the route.

That’s not very likely. There’s a meter on board (the Battery Monitor) that calculates how much longer you can go boating. It uses a very conservative estimate. The battery capacity is designed to allow for 7–8 hours of continuous full-throttle sailing at 80 amps. In practice, our electric boats cruise without any problems throughout the entire day. If you want to cruise economically, stick to 60 amperes. This makes hardly any difference in speed, but it does save a lot of battery capacity!
By the way, it’s reassuring to know that there’s a built-in safety system. If the batteries run low, you can gradually reduce your speed—from 100% capacity to 80%, then to 60%, and so on. That way, you’ll always make it home. Just give us a call if that happens.
